Politics.co.uk has regularly reported on the growing problem of rough sleeping but the extent of the crisis, which has been revealed by statistics released today, has shocked even those who are working on the ground with homeless people. Our first piece today reports that the number of rough sleepers in England has now doubled since David Cameron became prime minister in 2010 and has soared by 30% in the last year alone.

Elsewhere, we have a piece which suggests it's time to end child imprisonment. With self-harming, assaults and intimidation wide spread in young offenders institutions, the director of children's charity Article 39 argues that an alternative must now be found.
