Pick of the week: Cameron's shame

"These are human beings: even in the use of the word migrants, somehow it's as if they don't have rights. They all have rights just as we have rights." - Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein

Does London deserve better than Goldsmith and Khan?

"One of the things at which brilliant politicians are better than mediocre ones is smelling new public concerns over the horizons before they are picked up by polls" - Rick Perlstein

Whatever you think about Boris Johnson and Ken Livingstone, few could argue that the current and former mayor of London are political heavyweights. But could the same be said about their possible successors? Our first piece today suggests not. A report from the first hustings of the mayoral election finds that Sadiq Khan and Zac Goldsmith were less than impressive, with neither candidate providing a clear image of what London would look like with them in charge.

Elsewhere, we have a piece which highlights the findings of a new report into Joint Enterprise. It suggests that the law, which allows more than one person to be prosecuted for the same offence even if they weren't all in the proximity, is criminalising young black men.

The UK's growing homeless crisis

"Hunger and homelessness aren't things we always want to talk about" - K.A.Applegate
View this email in your browser

Homelessness in the UK is on the rise. With rough-sleeping in the UK up 55% since 2010 and a surge in homeless camps being set up around the country, our first piece today, examines the growing crisis and suggests it's a subject politicians would rather not talk about.

As charities in London have called on the next mayor of the city to make tackling homelessness a priority, we have a video which looks at the reality of life for those living on the streets of our capital.

And elsewhere, we have an article which suggests that under Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP government is drifting towards authoritarianism.
