Corbyn's social media bubble

"Enthusiasm just creates bubbles, it doesn't keep them from popping" - Adora Svitak
View this email in your browser

Today we look at research by YouGov which shows the huge political gap between supporters of Corbyn and the general public. We suggest one of the findings is key to explaining the unwavering support Corbyn has enjoyed despite all the attacks against him. According to this research 60% of Corbynites use social media as a "main source of news" compared to 40% for supporters of Corbyn's rivals and just 32% among the general public. Could this point to why Corbyn fans are so far removed from wider public opinion?

Elsewhere we report on the possession order granted this morning against housing activists at the Sweets Way estate. The group have occupied a property on the estate for the last 5 months to protest against the demolition of 142 homes. The properties are due to be replaced by over 200 new houses and flats but only 59 of these are expected to be "affordable".

Hysteria around Corbyn's women-only carriages

"We live in a society obsessed with public opinion. But leadership has never been about popularity." - Marco Rubio
View this email in your browser

Today we look at the response to Jeremy Corbyn's comments about women-only carriages. We suggest that even though his proposals to tackle violence and harassment against women are flawed, the reaction to them is totally out of proportion. We all complain of politicians not being authentic or having enough character but when one dares to express themselves clearly, this is what happens.

Elsewhere we hear from the president of Clear Cannabis Law Reform on the government's response to a petition which has been signed by over 200,000 people calling for the production, sale and use of cannabis to made legal. He says ministers are ignoring all the evidence and public opinion around this issue.
