A new report released by the intelligence and security committee is rather different from what we're used to. In the past it was rare for the committee to do little more than pay lip service to scrutiny. But our first piece today suggests that the new one, chaired by Dominic Grieve, is a whole different kettle of fish and that by taking on the snoopers' charter it's finally doing what it's supposed to. Next, we hear from the Green party London assembly member Darren Johnson, about research he has carried out on estate regeneration plans in London. He says that current proposals could lead to a net loss of around 7,000 social rented homes in the capital. And, in the last week or so, the Labour candidate for mayor of London Sadiq Khan, has come under pressure over his transport fares policy, with the BBC reporting that Transport for London (TfL) estimates the cost of the scheme to be much higher than Khan says. Rather than disagree with their calculations the Labour candidate suggested that TfL hadn't made the claim in the first place. Our next piece looks into this further to find out who is telling the truth. |
