The photo-op election Earlier this year David Cameron argued that the TV debates would be a "distraction" from the real issues facing the country. Yet far from dealing with those issues, this election campaign has increasingly resembled little more than an extended photo-op, peppered with the occasional moment of personal abuse. And the less serious the campaign, the more personal it has become. A case in point today was Michael Fallon's attack on Ed Miliband on an issue (Trident) where the policies of the two parties are actually identical. But despite these manufactured rows, there remain big and real differences between the two parties, most notably on tax. Labour's pledge on non-dom tax has been roundly criticised by much of the British press in the past 24 hours. However, a new poll out this morning found that the policy has overwhelming public support. Get beyond the photo-ops and there are some big issues still at stake in this election. | |
