Migrant crisis

Immigration hasn't played a huge part in this year's general election campaign with both Labour and the Conservatives judging that it isn't a vote-winner for them. However, the ongoing crisis in the Mediterranean has brought it back to the fore with Ukip's Nigel Farage hoping he can capitalise.

News of hundreds of migrants and refugees drowning in the Med, have clearly highlighted the real human cost of attempts to control migration. Those costs are also now being felt at home however, with recent fears about health tourism apparently putting lives at risk in the NHS. Meanwhile, we report that a flight of deportees to Afghanistan has been cancelled after lawyers won the right for a last-minute judicial review.

Elsewhere, the Conservative focus on possible Labour-SNP post-election deals continues to dominate the headlines, with senior Tories warning that Cameron's anti-Scottish rhetoric risks the future of the Union. However divisive it may be, a new poll suggests it could just be the key to keeping Cameron in Downing Street.
