Labour needs to do more to engage with faith communities

"Skip the religion and politics, head straight to the compassion" - Talib Kweli

Alistair Campbell famously said Labour "don't do God" but our first piece today suggests that the party needs to do more to engage with faith communities and asks why it is so embarrassed to talk about religion.

Next up, we hear about a new report which reveals the impact the closure of the Independent Living Fund has had on disabled people. It calls for a radical rethink of social care policy and an acknowledgement that local authority administered care and support is failing.

We also have a piece which suggests that Jeremy Corbyn's shock decision to support leaving the single market is a betrayal of British workers.

And finally, we look at the performance of the new lord chancellor and secretary of state for justice Liz Truss at her first appearance before Parliament's Justice Committee. It suggests that she struggled to answer any of the questions she was asked and that she appeared to have no developed plan for how to tackle the prison crisis.
