Market tested

Today former Conservative chancellor George Osborne urged the country against a 'hard Brexit' saying that "Brexit won a majority: Hard Brexit did not."

But while increasing numbers of Conservative figures are urging against exit from the single market and all the economic consequences that would entail, many in the Labour party are heading in the opposite direction. Among them are Labour Welsh Assembly members who yesterday refused to back a motion calling for the UK to stay within the single market.

One factor plaguing Labour at the moment is the mountain that needs to be climbed for the party to get back into government. Our second piece today comes from the Electoral Reform Society and explains why unless we introduce a new voting system, left-wing parties will struggle to ever win again.
