One of the surprising outcomes of the EU referendum was that it smashed the idea of austerity. The political classes were sent a very clear message that England is angry and that things must change. This provided a chink of light for the Labour party, so why have they struggled to capitalise on it?

Our lead piece today suggests it's down to Corbyn's leadership. It argues that while Corbyn and McDonnell have played a significant part in shifting the narrative surrounding austerity within their own party, Corbyn has made too many mistakes to be able to win over voters. It suggests that the only way for Labour to seriously challenge the Tories is by electing Owen Smith as leader.
