Whatever you thought would happen in the Tory leadership contest is likely to have been wrong. Just a few hours ago, pretty much everyone expected it to be a two-horse race between Theresa May and Boris Johnson with the former mayor of London being supported by his fellow Leave campaigner Michael Gove. This morning, Gove delivered a devastating blow to his close ally and announced that he will be running himself. Our first item today suggests the many times he has openly spoken about not wanting to be the prime minister may now come back to haunt him.

And then came the most shocking news of today: Boris Johnson has abandoned his leadership bid. As our next item says, this is one of the most dramatic moments in what has been the most dramatic week in British politics for decades. What happens next is anyone's guess.
