Both sides of the EU referendum campaign have been out in force today with David Cameron teaming up with Harriet Harman, Tim Farron and Natalie Bennett to warn of the Leave side's economic 'con trick'. They did this while stood in front of three Minis and a Brompton Bike - don't ask. And for Brexit, Michael Gove, Boris Johnson, John Longworth and Gisela Stuart chose a factory in Stratford to make their latest argument for coming out of the EU. Fear seems to be central to both sides' message: stay in and we will be overrun with foreign criminals, come out and we risk economic disaster. But our lead item today suggests the Leave campaign has given up any positive arguments at all and has instead become a replica of the Donald Trump model. With a new ICM poll out this morning putting them in the lead, their tactics may be working but this piece says there could be worrying implications for the future of Britain's political debate. |
