Well, after months of campaigning - has it really only been months? - it's almost over. Just a few more hours and we won't ever have to hear the phrases 'stronger together' or 'take back control' ever again. We hope. Both sides have been out in force today as they make a last push for votes. As reported in our daily live blog we've seen John Major (yes, really) and Nigel Farage making big speeches this morning. As you would perhaps expect from the Ukip leader, there was the usual waving around of his passport and talk of flags. But Farage doesn't have a monopoly on patriotism. Our first piece today suggests that a love of country doesn't have to come from some nostalgic, monocultural view of the world and argues that while Farage speaks for ignorance and fear, it's diversity and openness which makes Britain great. And elsewhere, we hear from Amnesty International on why they believe there is an urgent need for abortion laws in Northern Ireland to be reformed. |
