As Ukip releases a controversial new campaign poster warning that we're at 'breaking point', Caroline Lucas today writes for Politics.co.uk about why it's so important that the positive case for EU immigration is made. The Green MP argues that we should celebrate free movement and the benefits it brings both to the UK and to UK citizens living and retiring abroad. Whereas the Leave campaign has focused their argument on immigration, Remainers were hoping that the economy would be the deciding factor of the referendum. But recent polling has found that there were more voters who believed Brexit claims about the cost of the EU than there were who trusted the consensus among experts about the negative impact of leaving. Our next piece suggests this shows that a victory for Leave would be a blow to our belief in facts and reason. |
