| The shocking news that 18 Albanian migrants tried to get to the UK by crossing the Channel in an inflatable boat has made headlines across Europe. But why would people who are not fleeing war take such a risk? Our first piece today looks at the current situation in the former communist country and finds that tens of thousands of people have left over the last couple of years. It suggests that while the Albanian government has made great strides in improving the capital city and tourist areas, it needs to do far more to tackle the entrenched poverty which plagues the country.
