The women fighting back against unequal pay

"Twenty years later, twenty years after I joined the women's movement, we're still talking about the same issues." - Corin Tucker

When we think of unequal pay it is in relation to a man and woman doing the same job for a different wage. But it can also be about how we value the work women traditionally do. Our first piece today highlights an industrial dispute between Durham County Council and teaching assistants, which has resulted in hundreds of women going out on strike this week. It argues that women everywhere should be supporting the campaign and warns that until the structural inequalities that effect so many women in low paid work are recognised, we will never achieve equal pay for all.

Elsewhere, we report that Zac Goldsmith has been joined on the campaign trail this week by pro-Heathrow Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg. This is despite the fact that Goldsmith resigned from the Conservative party in apparent principled protest against expansion at Heathrow.
