The leaked Cabinet Office memo published by the Times last night suggested there is an urgent need for 30,000 more staff to deal with the 500 projects started as a result of Brexit. Our first piece today argues that Theresa May was warned about the magnitude of the task the government has taken on and that her decision not to try for an interim Brexit deal has led her to this mess.

Elsewhere, we look at the current crisis in our prisons. In recent months there have been deaths, riots and escapes but this piece suggests there has been very little leadership shown from the justice secretary Liz Truss, on the issue.
