There is a conspiratorial style now popular on both the right and left fringes of British politics, whenever something is not going their way they start talking about media stitch-ups. So last night's email from the official Brexit campaign complaining about ITV's decision to invite Nigel Farage to represent the Leave campaign in a televised debate, shouldn't have come as much of a surprise. That is, until you get to the part which warns of their being "consequences" for the decision. Our first piece today suggests that such intimidatory behaviour is not only unacceptable but also shows that the Brexit campaign may be feeling far from confident in their chances of winning the referendum. Elsewhere, few people have been as badly affected by the housing crisis as the poorest in society. In recent years, homelessness has soared and thousands of families have been forced to live in unsuitable temporary accommodation. Our next piece today suggests the government's plan to solve the crisis will actually make it worse. It argues that the focus on home ownership shows that the Conservatives' housing and planning bill is a short-sighted and ideologically driven policy. |
