You would think that by now politicians would know it's rarely a good idea to compare anyone or anything to Hitler and the Nazis. But if Boris Johnson's comments at the weekend are anything to go by, it appears they don't. Our first piece today points out that the former London mayor's EU-Hitler analogy is just the latest in a string of comparisons he has made between his enemies and tyrants. It suggests that, when all else fails, Boris resorts to smearing his rivals. A new report by the justice select committee into prison safety shows that assaults on inmates and staff are soaring. Some put this down to the rise in legal highs while others argue that it's due to a low staff-to-prisoner ratio. Our next piece suggests that both issues need to be dealt with and that while the Tory backbenches and the Daily Mail may not like it, a liberal solution is the only way to improve the current crisis in our prison system. |
