Home Office backs down on Psychoactive Substances Act

"There's always cause for concern if bad policies are pursued." - Jack Kemp

With the Psychoactive Substances Act about to become law we report that the small print of newly-released documents reveals a major U-turn by the Home Office. The government is now accepting a scientific definition of the phrase 'psychoactive' instead of the one they themselves put forward. This may not sound like a big deal but our first piece today suggests that the ramifications could be stark.

Next up, we take a look at today's announcement of who will be making up Sadiq Khan's top team. The new mayor has surrounded himself with closely trusted senior aides and loyal political allies, something which our next piece suggests shows he is not making the same mistakes as Boris Johnson did in his early days.

And, over the last few days Tristram Hunt has been very vocal about the need for the Labour party to be more patriotic if it wants to reconnect with the working class. Our final piece today suggests that the idea is patronising and that if the party really wants to win back the support of the working class it needs to start looking and sounding like the people they are supposed to represent it.
