It's easy to forget that when Sadiq Khan was first selected as the Labour candidate for mayor of London, many thought he would have a tough job beating Zac Goldsmith. Of course, in the end he not only won the election but won it comfortably so what was it that made his campaign so successful? Our first piece today takes an in-depth look at how Khan's team achieved the most important Labour electoral victory in years.

When government proposals are being likened to something President Putin would come up with, you know it's time to pay attention. The latest part of the Investigatory Powers Bill to lead to such comparisons involves plans to create a database of personal information to spy on British citizens. Our next piece examines this in more detail and asks if there is enough opposition in the Commons to defeat the bill.
