After yesterday's news that the blanket surveillance of UK citizens will continue, we have reactions to the tribunal ruling that the Wilson Doctrine holds no special protections from interception. In a piece for Politics.co.uk David Davis says MPs were falsely led to believe their communications were protected under the law. He suggests that the upcoming investigatory powers bill will offer the opportunity for Parliament to consider what protections its members should have. The Green peer Jenny Jones who brought the legal challenge also writes for us on the ruling. She warns that it could lead to whistleblowers thinking twice before coming forward. Elsewhere, we carry a piece which looks at the government's access to medical treatment bill which is opposed by many professional medical bodies. And if you missed yesterday's PMQ's catch up with our analysis of it here. |
