Has identity politics become a cult?

"On the web the thinking of cults can spread very rapidly and suddenly." - Tim Berners-Lee

This morning we have piece which looks at the no-platforming of Germaine Greer and what it says about identity politics. It suggests that there is a growing tendency to banish any views that fall outside the accepted mantra.

Elsewhere, Caroline Lucas writes about why she believes we should be rallying behind the junior doctors in their dispute with the health secretary over changes to their contracts.

We also have a piece written by the Liberal Democrat peer Baroness Hamwee. She discusses government cuts to asylum support and suggests that Labour sat on their hands as the Lib Dems tried to oppose the cuts in the House of Lords.

Finally, we have a piece questioning the Telegraph's business relationship and coverage of regimes around the world accused of human rights abuses.

Today sees the introduction into the House of Lords of Rachel Treweek, the Bishop of Gloucester, who will be the first female bishop of the Church of England (CofE) to sit in the House of Lords. While the move may represent progress towards gender equality within the Church of England, the British Humanist Association (BHA) has pointed out that by sitting as of right in the Lords, the bishops still hold an unfair, unnecessary and unjustified privilege in representing just a tiny proportion of the UK population.
