With the shocking image of a young boy washed up on a beach in Turkey at the forefront of everyone's mind this morning, we take a look at the treatment of child refugees once they arrive in the UK. Maeve McClenaghan, an investigative journalist, says that the children who survive the horrors of the journey to the UK continue to suffer at the hands of the people they hoped would save them. We also have a piece by Alex Salmond's biographer David Torrance who examines the record of the SNP. He argues the extended honeymoon the party has enjoyed in recent years means it has escaped the same level of scrutiny applied regularly to the UK government. Is the party far less radical and bold than its slick presentation suggests? Elsewhere, we report that the favourite to be the next Conservative candidate for mayor of London, Zac Goldsmith, will remain in the party even if the government backs the expansion of Heathrow. He said that while he would trigger a by-election in his parliamentary seat if this happened, he would still run for mayor as a Conservative. |
