This morning we highlight the gap in the system which leaves some victims of domestic violence with nowhere to turn. Immigrant women who have experienced abuse but are undocumented or have no recourse to public funds are being turned away from refuges and in some cases left at the mercy of their abuser. We also look at today's Commons debate on the detention of immigrants. Secured by MPs from all parties, the debate couldn't come at a worse time for the Home Office, as it faces a wave of adverse legal rulings and political attacks. Elsewhere, we have a piece about a Labour frontbencher who has warned that the Labour party will face "dire consequences" if Jeremy Corbyn is elected. The shadow transport secretary, Michael Dugher, also said the party could lose "hundreds of councillors" if Corbyn becomes the next Labour leader. And we report that the prime minister yesterday refused to confirm whether the security services are routinely monitoring communications between MPs and their constituents. |
