Even supporters of Syrian intervention should be wary of sabre-rattling in the press

"All the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting." - George Orwell

Today we look at the coverage in the right-wing press of the situation in Syria. After a summer of headlines warning of swarms of migrants heading to the UK there was a sudden change in tone after the shocking picture of Aylan Kurdi emerged. Already though, concern and empathy appears to be switching to war-mongering with the Sun labelling the Labour leadership contenders "cowards" for not backing a bombing campaign in Syria. Those who oppose military action are obviously outraged by this, but we suggest even those who support it should realise that this type of coverage does them no good either.

We also ask if Yvette Cooper could really win the Labour leadership. There has been a lot of talk of a possible 'late surge' for Cooper with some believing she could pull off a surprise victory. But we suggest this is unlikely, although no one can be certain, all the evidence shows Corbyn is well ahead. However the picture in the London mayoral candidate race is far less clear. At this stage only a fool would call the result of that with any confidence.
