From the Scottish referendum to the Conservative's general election campaign we have seen plenty of examples of negativity being successfully used in politics recently. So it should be no surprise that Jeremy Corbyn's positive rhetoric and straight forward manner have felt new and refreshing to many people. We suggest rather than plotting against the left-winger the Labour party establishment would do well to learn from him and see what can happen when a politician expresses big positive ideas. Today we also look at Labour's London mayoral race and ask if the Corbyn surge is having an impact on the outcome of that election. Until now Tessa Jowell has been the clear frontrunner to become the party's candidate for mayor but as with elsewhere in the country the number of new members signing up to Labour has soared since the so-called Corbynmania took hold. Is it possible that those backing Corbyn nationally will support a Blairite like Jowell in London? Elsewhere, the new leader of Scottish Labour, Kezia Dugdale writes for Politics.co.uk about what she sees as the two key reasons why people have lost faith in the Labour party in Scotland. She says making education a priority will tackle the poverty, inequality and low pay in the country. |
