If Labour are lurching left, how do we explain the rise of Tessa Jowell?

Looking at recent polls and coverage of the Labour leadership contest it would be easy to assume the party is lurching to the left but what about the the rise of Tessa Jowell? The staunch Blairite is the current frontrunner to be the Labour candidate in the London mayoral election. How is Jowell so far ahead in the capital but her ideological opposite Jeremy Corbyn is apparently winning nationally?

Elsewhere, the policy and research manager at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation analyses the government's benefit cap statistics and suggests a better way to bring down the benefit bill would be to provide more affordable social housing.
