David Cameron said "families are the bedrock of our society" but the Migrant Integration Policy Index has just ranked the UK 38th out of 38 countries for family reunion. Since the £18,600 income threshold was introduced for Brits trying to bring a foreign spouse from abroad, an estimated 33,000 people have been either separated from a love one or forced to live outside their home country. Elsewhere, we hear from a political researcher who says Cameron's planned EU referendum simply masks the weaknesses of his own party. The prime minister knows governing with a small majority will become increasingly difficult if the eurosceptics start to rebel, so like Harold Wilson in 1975 he is hoping a referendum will unite his party. Even if he wins the vote, will it be enough? | |
