When concerns were first raised about changes introduced last month requiring schools and colleges in England to ask parents if their children are foreign nationals or born abroad, they were met with reassurances that the data would not be shared with the Home Office. But how seriously can we take those assurances, and what will this policy do the relationship between schools and pupils? Our first piece today examines all these issues and more.

Our second piece examines a little-known piece of legislation which allows councils to impose blanket restrictions on the behaviour of local residents. Community Protection Notices have allowed local authorities to ban people from doing otherwise perfectly legal activities in their homes and gardens. It argues that it's time to completely overhaul or repeal this law.
