Zac Goldsmith's resignation this week has triggered lots of talk about whether parties should clear the way for a candidate with a better chance of beating him. Our first piece today suggests that the situation shows that our electoral system is broken and argues that a proportional system for national elections, and AV for by-elections could be a solution. Next we have a piece which asks if a UK desperate for trade can stay clean? It suggests that while Brexit will dominate the political scene in the coming years, the challenges posed by corruption are as relevant right now as they were when the government hosted its Anti-Corruption Summit in May. And, we hear from the homelessness charity Crisis about why it's so important for MPs to back the homelessness reduction bill. It suggests that this is the first time in 40 years that we have a real chance to change things. |
