Ethnic minority Tories say Zac Goldsmith's dog-whistle campaign damaged party

Zac Goldsmith's divisive mayoral campaign received plenty of criticism earlier this year. Now, a leading black Tory MP has spoken out about how badly it has damaged the party.

Our lead item today reports that former minister Helen Grant has told a fringe event at the Conservative party conference that Goldsmith's campaign was "unfortunate" and "embarrassing". The party's MEP group leader Syed Kamall agreed, describing it as "awful" and said that it had failed to communicate to the ethnic minority voters Goldsmith needed to win over.
