In the end, there really wasn't much of a Tory leadership contest. With her rivals all falling by the wayside, Theresa May will be the new prime minister tomorrow. Our first piece today suggests Britain has dodged a bullet and that Andrea Leadsom would have been a disaster for the UK. Before she tackles Brexit, May will need to decide upon her first cabinet. Our next piece suggests that she should forget any rivalry over the leadership and keep Michael Gove as justice secretary. It argues that he has been developing a coherent policy agenda for reform and should be allowed to see it through. And finally, we have the next instalment of our Brexit series. Today we look at the impact of leaving the EU on women's rights. Sam Smethers of the Fawcett Society writes that several risk areas for women have become apparent – rights at work, women's economic welfare, and safety from racism and attacks. |
