It's been seven years in the making but this morning the long-awaited Chilcot report was finally published and the findings are damning. Sir John Chilcot found that there was no imminent threat from Saddam Hussein and that Tony Blair made the decision to follow American policy on Iraq as early as December 2001, two years before the war began. Our first piece today lays out all the key points from the report and suggests that it vindicates all those people who were critical of Tony Blair's decision to go to war. Our next item looks at the findings in a little more detail and suggests that the report is one of the most damning assessments ever made of a British prime minster. It argues that the repercussions of Blair's decision to stand "shoulder to shoulder" with America are so severe and the number of lives lost so extensive, that his reputation should never recover. |
