After a relatively quiet weekend, the political drama continues today with the news that Nigel Farage is to step down as leader of Ukip. Our first piece suggests that he has bowed out in much the same style as he led the party: laying the ground for division. Speaking this morning, he made it clear that any attempt to stay in the single market would be considered an act of treachery. Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn is still clinging on. Angela Eagle has said that she is prepared to "resolve" the Labour leadership crisis within the next few days if Corbyn refuses to stand down. Our next piece suggests the Labour party is now locked in stalemate and that it's hard to see a positive outcome for either side. And, in the coming days we'll be running a series of articles about the impact of Brexit on various sectors and policy. In the first of these pieces we hear from the Howard League for Penal Reform on how leaving the EU could put an end to much needed prison reform before it's even started. |
