"In the midst of migrants in search of a better life there are people in need of protection: refugees and asylum-seekers, women and children victims of trafficking" - Antonio Guterres

We've all become used to seeing disturbing images of the conditions in the Calais Jungle but what has been less discussed is the actions of the French authorities. Our first piece today highlights the findings of a new report which suggests people in the camp face regular violence and even sexual abuse from local police and far-right gangs.

Elsewhere, we hear from the charity Gingerbread, about how the cost of childcare is locking some parents out of work. New research, carried out by the organisation, shows that half of single parents in London are forced to borrow money just to meet childcare costs.

And finally, we report that Sadiq Khan is downplaying his chances of meeting his flagship pledge to make half of all new homes built in London, affordable. The Labour candidate for London mayor has told Politics.co.uk that he would rather fall short of his target than do nothing at all. This comes as yet another poll puts him comfortably ahead of his Conservative rival Zac Goldsmith.
