The all-party parliamentary group on religious education has been hit by controversy since the 2015 election led to a change of personnel at the top of the organisation. Today we report that the former chair of the group has warned that it now risks turning into a "religious sect" controlled by the "fundamentalist Christian wing" of the Conservative party. Writing for Politics.co.uk, Stephen Lloyd says that the group's new boss has pushed through changes to exclude the teaching of values of people with no faith. The former Lib Dem MP argues that it is essential that the group supports and encourages a high standard of broad and informed debate across the different religious and non-religious views. Elsewhere, we hear from the campaign group Global Justice Now about their new report which examines how the privatisation of aid is lining the pockets of British companies. And, in our latest video, Caroline Lucas discusses her recent trip to the Calais Jungle and how the demolition of the camps is tearing communities apart. |
