Few would describe Chris Grayling's time as justice secretary as successful. From prison reform groups to barristers, just about any organisation or profession which had dealings with the legal system warned about one of his policies or another. So, news that the Supreme Court yesterday rejected his plan to introduce a residency test for legal aid was celebrated by many. Our first piece today looks at the battle which led to that ruling but warns that the fight might not be quite over yet.

And on the subject of failings, there is perhaps no greater failure of western governments in recent years than the response by Europe and Britain to the refugee crisis. The news that over 400 people are thought to have drowned in the Mediterranean this week shows that for all the the talk, nothing currently being done to prevent these deaths seems to be working. Our next piece dispels the biggest myths surrounding the crisis and warns that unless governments change tack, people will continue to die in European seas.
