The government's response to the steel crisis could hardly have been more chaotic. As news broke that Tata Steel intends to sell off its entire UK business, Sajid Javid was thousands of miles away in Australia. Perhaps the most remarkable moment of the last few days was the acknowledgement by the Thatcherite business secretary that nationalisation of the steelworks hasn't been ruled out.
