Steelworkers lash out at government's response to the Tata crisis

"We know that in our free market economy some will prosper more than others. What we don't accept is the idea that some folks won't even get a chance." - Julian Castro

The government's response to the steel crisis could hardly have been more chaotic. As news broke that Tata Steel intends to sell off its entire UK business, Sajid Javid was thousands of miles away in Australia. Today we hear from worried workers in Port Talbot and Corby about what many of them view as the mishandling of the situation by the Tories.

Perhaps the most remarkable moment of the last few days was the acknowledgement by the Thatcherite business secretary that nationalisation of the steelworks hasn't been ruled out. Our next piece suggests that if a buyer can't be found, this could be a turning point in the decline of free market fundamentalism in the UK.

Elsewhere, we report that Zac Goldsmith plans to recruit a cyber army of volunteers to monitor the internet for 'online extremism', if he becomes mayor of London. The Tory candidate's attempts to highlight the terror threat facing the capital comes as a new poll suggests his attacks on Labour's candidate Sadiq Khan have so far failed to convince Londoners.
