Will Yvette Cooper ever tell us what she really thinks? With the Labour leadership contest dragging on (and on) we a take a look at Yvette Cooper's interview with the Today programme and ask why the shadow home secretary refuses to divulge what she really thinks about anything, and instead just reels off a series of platitudes. Presumably she is hoping that by offending as few people as possible she will gain enough second preference votes to win the contest. But surely Labour members have a right to know what they are actually voting for. Elsewhere, three politicians are today challenging in court the use of blanket surveillance of British citizens by the intelligence service. Caroline Lucas, Jenny Jones and George Galloway say the blanket collection of electronic 'metadata' breaches the "Wilson Doctrine" which forbids the interception of communication between MPs and their constituents. |
