Prison crisis revelaed

New government statistics published today have revealed a shocking increase in assaults and murders inside prisons. The figures appear to bear out the concerns of many that the combination of higher numbers of inmates and reduced staffing levels are causing a crisis in the prison service.

Staying on the subject of prisons, we hear from a former prisoner who is warning that a possible smoking ban in prisons would be hell for inmates and staff.

And elsewhere, we take a look at a decision by a police commissioner in Durham to no longer make cultivation of cannabis a priority for his force. With a number of other areas now indicating they may follow suit, could police commissioners be the key to cannabis reform?
