Outfoxed

The government have today been forced to postpone a planned vote on relaxing the foxhunting ban after the SNP signalled they would vote against the measure. The SNP's decision has forced Cameron into his third significant climbdown of the Parliament and we're only two months in. Governing with a majority of twelve is not proving to be as easy as many in the party had hoped. The government will now seek to force through English Votes for English Laws rules in order to prevent the SNP from sabotaging the vote again.

But beyond the parliamentary shenanigans, the question of the rights and wrongs of fox-hunting have got somewhat lost. Anti-hunt activists gathered outside Parliament today in a show of force against relaxing the ban. Opinion polls show they have the majority of the public behind them. But how much is this widespread anti-hunt feeling to do with animal welfare and how much of it is to do with sticking one in the eye of the sort og people who enjoy taking part in it?

Today we also hear from families who have been hit by the ongoing war on drugs. The stories of young lives wrecked by the continued prohibition of psychoactive substances should give pause to those who argue for the continuation of the UK's hardline drugs policy.

Events in Greece also continue to dominate as the country prepares to submit to yet more harsh austerity plans. With the Greek people set to lose almost total autonomy over their own economy, we look at plans for the TTIP deal and ask whether the rest of Europe could soon face a similar removal of self-determination.
