Signs of legal strike panic

As the legal strike continues, the MoJ insists it is business as usual. But behind the scenes there is evidence things are falling apart. Will solicitors be able to hold on long enough for the full impact of the strike to be felt?

In welfare news,  research commissioned by Labour MP Frank Field shows 3.2 million low-income workers will lose an average of £1,350 each. This comes as Labour appeared to be in disarray over the chancellor's Budget plans, with forty-eight MPs rebelling against their party whips, in last night's vote on the welfare bill.

And finally, the Metropolitan police are urging the London Assembly to let them use 'sound weapons' during riots, now that the home secretary has refused a license for Boris Johnson's controversial water cannons.
