London together It's ten years today since the horrific bombings that hit London on July 7th 2005. Many fine words were spoken in the days that followed but it was the speech made by Ken Livingstone in the immediate aftermath that still lingers today. His emotional and defiant tribute to the city he loves, is as powerful now as it was back then. It remains his finest moment and one of the all-time great speeches. Today we also take a look at the ongoing scandal of prison death and the perverse and lethal effect of the government's clampdown on drug-taking by prisoners. A new report out today reveals how more and more prisoners are being driven to using highly dangerous, but difficult to detect legal highs rather than the much safer but easier to detect illegal alternatives. If you squeeze one part of the balloon, it merely expands elsewhere. |
