It's nearly over. By this time tomorrow, the polls will be open and we'll be well on our way. Admittedly there'll still be hours of voting to go, then an entire evening of counting, some highly uncertain results, then days - perhaps weeks - of talks and increasingly imaginative coverage from the press. But at least there'll be no more campaign. Today we feature a piece on the cynical and unhelpful discussions of 'legitimacy' during the election and another on why our current crop of political leaders are struggling to connect with voters. But we give over our main item to an interview with shadow justice secretary Sadiq Khan. With crime, prisons and justice having received no coverage during the campaign so far, we dedicated a fairly lengthy video to seeing what the Labour position is and how likely they are to fulfill it. There'll be no newsletter tomorrow, as we give our editorial staff some rest before the night to come. But we'll be covering the election results from just before the polls close until Friday daytime - probably sometime in the afternoon or whenever we get a sense that things are drawing to a close for the day. We'll have all the best analysis, opinion, news and insight into the night's events, and you'll even be able to watch us descend into a state of mumbling sleep-deprived madness sometime around Friday lunch. When a clear picture has emerged - or as clear as we're likely to get in the short term - we'll send out a special newsletter to brighten up your inbox. See you then. | |
