IDS and the new age of political chaos

"All political parties die at last of swallowing their own lies." - John Arbuthnot

What a weekend for the Tories. The resignation of Iain Duncan Smith has led to a war of words so bitter, it's managed to make the Labour party seem like one big happy family in comparison. Our first piece today suggests that with both parties now engaged in civil war, their brands could be starting to disintegrate.

However chaotic our own politics are right now, at least we can be comforted by the fact that it's nowhere as bad as the rise of Donald Trump in the States. Right? Well, our next piece reports that the former Labour leadership hopeful Chuka Umunna, has warned that an increase in divisive tactics here in the UK could lead to a 'Trumpification' of our democracy.

And finally, speaking to Politics.co.uk today, the Labour candidate for mayor of London Sadiq Khan, has refused to rule out raising council tax saying that Zac Goldsmith's plans to freeze it would put Londoners at risk. He also hit out at what he described as the "desperate lengths" the Tories are going to to associate him with extremism.
