If you missed Donald Trump's comments about the size of his manhood last night, count yourself lucky, it wasn't a great moment for American politics. But before patting ourselves on the back and thinking we would never stoop so low here, our first piece today suggests the EU debate shows we're not that far away from the American experience when it comes to macho ego-driven contests. Just take Nigel Farage, who our next piece reports, used an appearance at a debate on the future of Britain in Europe, to pursue his personal vendetta against Douglas Carswell. When asked whether his party's only MP should leave Ukip, Farage replied: "He can do what he likes. I don't care. He's irrelevant." Elsewhere we bring you a story on a 'co-operative council' which is forcing people out of their homes. Campaigners say an 81 year-old man is facing eviction from the house he is has lived in for over 30 years because Lambeth council now wants to sell it off. And finally, Sadiq Khan's campaign hit back strongly yesterday at claims by his Conservative rival for London mayor Zac Goldsmith, that the Labour candidate would put the capital's green belt at risk. Our factcheck takes a look back over Khan's record on the issue to see who is right. |
