Disaster for Theresa May

"What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence" - Christopher Hitchens

Court rulings don't get much more damning than this. A tribunal has today found that Theresa May deported thousands of students from Britain based on extremely flimsy evidence. Revelations of fraudulent language tests in one London school were enough for the Home Office to start rounding people up and chucking them out of country. Our first piece reports on this morning's ruling and looks at the impact it could have on the immigration system.

It doesn't happen very often but every now and then a Select Committee hearing is actually worth watching. Today is one of those days as Boris Johnson is grilled by MPs on Europe's relationship with the EU. It might not sound very exciting but some MPs saw this as a perfect opportunity to put the favourite to become next Tory leader, to the test. Check out our live blog of this morning's session to find out how he coped.

And, we hear from a science adviser for Peta on a legal challenge which could put an end to a ban on cosmetic animal testing in the EU market.
