Calais Jungle now resembles a war zone

Police with riot shields, bulldozers, flames, and people's possessions strewn in the mud. This is not a description of a war zone but of the scenes which greeted Caroline Lucas on a recent visit to the Calais Jungle. Writing for Politics.co.uk, the Green MP gives a harrowing account of how the refugee camp is being torn apart by French authorities. She calls for the government to show compassion and to provide a legal route for refugees hoping to join family members in the UK.

Elsewhere, there is a myth that the no-platforming movement only goes after establishment voices. But people like Maryam Namazie, Peter Tatchell and Julie Bindel can hardly be described as being part of the establishment. This piece argues that by suppressing the voices of a secular feminist, a gay man and a working-class lesbian, supporters of no-platforming are actually hurting marginalised groups.
