Britain's shocking treatment of foreign students

"This is not just a debate about policy. It's about people." - Barack Obama

Today we lead with a shocking story about an American academic who was arrested and thrown into a detention centre after the Home Office failed to inform him that his application for leave to remain had been rejected. The piece suggests the government's desire to make it harder for students to remain in the country after their course is over could be damaging Britain's reputation oversees.

Elsewhere, we have a piece which suggests the Labour candidate for mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, appears to be distancing himself from Ken Livingstone despite him borrowing a number of the former mayor's key pledges. Although Livingstone remains popular among many Londoners, it seems Khan's team feel it could be too much of a risk for the two to be seen side by side.
