Heathrow delayed on take-off

Delays at Heathrow

The big political news of the day is the government's eleventh hour decision to delay their final decision on where to deliver airport expansion in the UK. Government sources have been briefing for some time that Heathrow expansion is the favoured option. However, political difficulties, including sustained opposition from both the current mayor of London and the Conservative candidate for mayor of London, as well as the VW emissions scandal, which has left previous emissions estimates open to legal challenge, means the final decision will not now be taken at least until next summer.

So does Heathrow have a bright new expanded future? Boris Johnson insists it doesn't, but his staff at City Hall don't seem so sure. Today we uncover the news that the Greater London Authority last week invested millions of pounds in Heathrow's funding arm.

We also report on the reaction from Ukip's Nigel Farage to the hugely controversial remarks by US presidential candidate Donald Trump about banning Muslim immigration to the country. Farage believes Trump went "too far" but appears more worried by the "over the top" reaction to his comments.
